How to be an Effective Leech during a DPAfter the past days of returning from my self imposed exile to the lands of farming , I thought I would try and brave a few DPs to see if anything had changed.
Sadly, my hopes were quickly dashed. However, in the few hours I spent with my fellow players, I was reminded of the quality of today's leecher. While I am fully against leeching, if you're going to do it, at least put a little effort into it.
So, to help out the aspiring Leecher, I figured I would leave a few tidbits that I have picked up from others while DPing.
A How-To Guide to be an Effective Leech while in a DP
Use skills that take a good chunk of mana to ensure that your MP bar appears to be moving, but be careful not to overcast, as you don't want to look like a noob for burning through all your mana in the first 5 minutes.
Put on auto-follow (first choice is usually the tank, but you may need to watch the party to find the best choice) so it appears that you are actually fighting with the group.
Pull agro from time to time so the party doesn't become suspicious of your constantly full health bar.
The best pet to use is a bp, since you can leave it in one spot (park it by the healer) and no one will ever question why it isn't moving with the group. Range attack pets are the next best thing since few will notice the attack animation. As with yourself, use the pet mp from time to time, though this is optional since most players only use the pet for ks and unity.
When going afk, only announce it to the group once or twice. Too many times and people will notice you are going afk a lot. Not announcing a few afk will also draw attention if the party changes tactics or moves during the dp a few times.
Don't talk to the party, at all. Not even regarding use of SS or a level check. If the group sees that you never speak, they have little reason to notice when you are afk.
If you play a healer, for the love of all that is holy and sacred, do not under any circumstance try to DD. Sit on your butt to keep your mana high, cast a few heals (even if no one is hurt enough to need it) just to keep the mp bar moving, and return to sitting.
Claim to have lag from time to time, especially if things start to go wrong during the dp.
